What is it?
Modal is a regenerated cellulosic fibre, usually produced from beechwood pulp. It is known for a very soft, smooth hand feel, good drape and comfort against the skin, and is often blended with cotton or elastane.
Typical uses
Tops, T-shirts, underwear, nightwear, loungewear, lightweight jersey products and selected dresses.
Common weights
Modal single jersey is typically 140–200 gsm; modal rib and modal-elastane blends usually range from 180–260 gsm.
Production considerations
Fabric recovery, shrinkage, colour performance, seam behaviour and care requirements should be reviewed before bulk production.
Quality starts before production
Relevant fabrics, trims, artwork, print or embroidery requirements and other value-added processes are reviewed against approved product requirements before bulk manufacturing begins.
