What is it?
Rib is a knitted structure with alternating knit and purl columns that provide natural stretch and recovery. Different rib constructions create different levels of body and elasticity.
Rib options
1x1 rib: one knit and one purl column; a fine, light rib with high elasticity, typically 180–260 gsm, used for T-shirt necklines, cuffs, hems and fitted tops. 2x2 rib: two knit and two purl columns; a more structured rib with good recovery, typically 240–320 gsm, used for sweatshirt cuffs, waistbands and body fabrics. 2x1 rib and elastane (lycra) rib are also available for more texture or extra recovery.
Typical uses
Tops, fitted dresses, neckbands, cuffs, waistbands and hem details.
Production considerations
Stretch, recovery, weight, width, shrinkage and compatibility with the main fabric should be reviewed during development.
Quality starts before production
Relevant fabrics, trims, artwork, print or embroidery requirements and other value-added processes are reviewed against approved product requirements before bulk manufacturing begins.
